How much does it cost to give birth in USA in 2026

The USA offers the strongest passport but also the highest cost. This breakdown covers the budget as calculated before the executive order of 6 August 2026. We no longer organise birth trips to the USA — we handle documents for children who are already born there.

⚠️ Update: August 6, 2026

An executive order was signed instructing the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security to end birth tourism — entry into the US on a temporary visa with the primary purpose of giving birth. The order allows visas to be revoked, lifetime entry bans to be imposed, and action to be taken against companies selling such trips. Birthright citizenship, however, has held: on June 30, 2026, the Supreme Court upheld it in a 6–3 decision. SVOY Baby no longer organizes birth trips to the United States — we we handle the documents for a child who has already been born. The U.S. figures below are kept as a reference showing how the market calculated budgets before the executive order. Where birth tourism is legal and grants status to parents — Brazil, Argentina, Mexico.

What makes up the budget

Birth in the US is not just the hospital bill. The full family budget involves several line items, and underestimating any one of them is the main reason for unexpected overspend.

  • Hospital and doctor — from $8,000–12,000 for an uncomplicated vaginal birth to $20,000+ for a C-section. These are self-pay (cash) prices, which are noticeably lower than the insurance rate.
  • Medical insurance for pregnant women — critical for the USA: it covers the risk of complications and neonatal intensive care, where bills can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  • B1/B2 visa and flights — visa strategy, consular fee, family flights.
  • Accommodation for 2–3 months — Miami, Los Angeles, or New York, close to the hospital.
  • Baby’s documents — state birth certificate, SSN, US passport, apostilles.

Why insurance is mandatory

In the USA, the birth certificate is issued by the county, not the hospital — and processing times vary by county

The USA has no public healthcare, and the cost of emergency care is uncapped. An uncomplicated birth is predictable, but if the baby ends up in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), the bill can easily exceed $100,000. That is exactly what insurance protects against — which is why it is always included in our USA packages, and we never recommend going without it.

Visa: the honest essentials

The right way to come to the US for birth is a B1/B2 visa obtained honestly. There is no need to conceal a pregnancy at the border — and it is risky: since 2020 a consular officer may deny the visa if they conclude that the main purpose of the trip is to give birth at the expense of the US government. The key to approval is demonstrated ability to pay for medical care out of pocket (the insurance and proof of funds) and ties to your home country. We prepare a visa strategy tailored to your situation.

How to pay from Russia in 2026

Direct transfers from banks in Russia to the US are restricted, so hospital and insurance payments are routed through legal channels: via third jurisdictions, with proper confirmation of the source of funds. We process payments through the SVOY transfer service — in sync with your deadlines, with no grey schemes and with full documentation for the American side.

What the family gets in the end

The child is a US citizen by birth, with a passport granting visa-free entry to nearly 180 countries and the right to live and work in the US at any point in life. From age 21, they can sponsor green cards for their parents. Birth alone does not grant the parents any status — it is important to understand this from the start.

USA is closed — where you can go instead

Three countries where birth tourism is legal, birthright citizenship applies, and parents receive their own status. The budget there is a fraction of what the US costs.

Already in the US? We do not arrange the trip or visa for birth purposes, but if you are already in the country — we provide on-the-ground support and handle the documents for the child: state birth certificate, SSN, US passport, and apostilles.

Q&A

Common questions

What does it actually cost to give birth in the US in 2026?
Full turnkey project budget — approximately $25,000–45,000: hospital and doctor, medical insurance, visa and flights, housing for 2–3 months, and the child’s document processing. We put together an exact quote based on your city and due date.
Is insurance required for giving birth in the USA?
Yes, absolutely. Emergency care costs in the US are uncapped, and a newborn admitted to a NICU can cost more than $100,000. Insurance covers that risk and also strengthens the visa application.
Can a pregnant woman get a visa to the U.S.?
Yes, if you can clearly demonstrate the ability to cover medical costs yourself and show genuine ties to your home country. There is no need to hide the pregnancy — a consular officer may refuse a visa if they suspect you intend to give birth at the expense of the US public purse. We develop a personalised B1/B2 visa strategy for each client.
Will the parents gain status in the US after the birth?
No. The child becomes a U.S. citizen, but that does not give the parents any status. Once the child turns 21, they can sponsor green cards for their parents.
