Where to give birth abroad: 8 countries in one table

Short answer: if the whole family needs status — Brazil or Uruguay. If the strongest passport for the child is the priority and the budget allows — the USA. If cost matters most — Argentina and Latin America. If you want citizenship and are considering Turkey — Turkey does not grant it at all. Below is the same information in detail, criterion by criterion.

No single-country agency has a table like this — agencies — it is not in their interest to compare. It is in ours: we work with all these destinations at once, so we have no reason to sell you a single country.

The table is wider than the screen — you can scroll it sideways →

Citizenship for the child and status for the parents are two different things

The child can get a passport right away while the parents get nothing. That is how the US works. The opposite is true in Uruguay: parents receive permanent residency immediately, but the country’s passport only after three years. Decide what matters more to you, before choosing a country, not after buying tickets.

Rules change, and we reflect that

Decree 366/2025 eliminated automatic permanent residence for parents in Argentina. On June 30, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court confirmed birthright citizenship. Before every trip we recheck the current conditions for your country — the table reflects the situation as of August 2026.

Q&A

Common questions on choosing a country

In which country does a child receive citizenship immediately at birth?
Birthright citizenship (jus soli) is granted by the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, and Panama. In Chile, it applies only if the parents hold legal resident status at the time of birth. Turkey has no jus soli at all: citizenship follows the bloodline, and birth on Turkish soil confers no citizenship to the child.
Where do parents receive status the fastest?
In Brazil and Uruguay — permanent residence immediately upon the child’s birth. In Brazil, citizenship for parents becomes available after just 1 year of residency; in Uruguay, after 3 years. In Mexico, permanent residence is obtained through the child. In Argentina, after Decree 366/2025, automatic permanent residence no longer exists — only standard naturalization over 2 years. In the USA, parents receive no status at all.
Which country has the lowest total budget?
Argentina and Latin America — from $9,000 for the entire trip. Mexico — from $12,000, Brazil — from $15,000. The US is in a different league entirely: from $30,000. These figures represent the full budget — coordination, clinic, fees, housing, flights, and daily living costs.
How is this table different from comparisons offered by other agencies?
We cover all these destinations simultaneously, so we have no reason to ’sell’ any one country. A single-country agency has every incentive to avoid showing you that a neighbouring country is cheaper or offers status faster.
