Cancún clinics for the birth

Births in Cancún take place in private, internationally accredited hospitals. We look at the three main ones — Galenia, Hospiten and Amerimed: what sets them apart, what is included in the contract, and what to consider beyond price.

Public healthcare in Mexico for a foreign national without insurance is not an option: long queues, Spanish only, and no choice of doctor. That is why all births for non-residents take place in private hospitals. There are not many in Cancún, and the choice effectively comes down to three names.

Galenia Hospital

The city’s largest private hospital and the most common choice for childbirth. The main advantage — its own department neonatal intensive care: if the baby arrives early or needs monitoring, you won’t be transferred anywhere. For a family flying to give birth 10,000 kilometres from home, that matters more than the décor of the room.

Hospiten Cancún

Part of an international hospital network, familiar European-standard service, and extensive experience with international patients — Cancún is a tourist city, and this is perfectly normal practice here. A good choice if clear communication matters to you and a predictable protocol.

Amerimed

A hospital network across Mexico’s tourist cities, programmes for international patients, convenient locations. Usually ends up on the shortlist as a more compact and slightly more affordable option.

How much does a birth contract cost

A private clinic in Cancún charges for delivery from $3,500 for a natural birth and from $3,900 for a C-section: the lower figure applies to a natural birth uncomplicated delivery, the upper end for a caesarean section with a longer stay. This covers the hospital and doctor only.

Check that this is still current. Private hospital prices in Cancún are subject to revision several times a year and depend on the peso exchange rate. The figures above are indicative as of July 2026; for an exact estimate we calculate it for your clinic and due date and fix it in the contract.

What to look at beyond price

  • Whether a neonatal intensive care unit is available. The one item you cannot cut costs on.
  • What the contract includes. How many days of stay, anesthesia, partner accommodation, and what covers complications.
  • Who delivers the baby. The specific doctor and their approach to natural birth versus C-section is worth discussing in advance.
  • Language. English is almost always available at private hospitals; other languages are not. A doula who can interpret during delivery solves the problem.
  • Whether the clinic regularly works with international patients. The speed of obtaining the birth certificate depends on their report.

How to pay when cards don’t work

The contract is usually paid in stages — a deposit on signing and the balance before the birth. Russian cards in Mexico are not accepted, so the payment route needs to be planned in advance: how to do it legally is explained in our article how to pay for the birth and clinic from Russia, and we plan the translations separately.

What to do before choosing a clinic

The clinic is not the first question — it is the third. First comes the mother’s residency status; without it you may simply not make it to Cancún: pregnant women without status are turned back at the airport. The process is handled by SVOY Legal. Then — flight timing: covered separately in the article how far along to be when flying to Mexico to give birth. And only then the clinic and accommodation nearby — SVOY HOME.

Q&A

Common questions

How much does it cost to give birth at a clinic in Cancún in 2026?
Natural birth — from $3,500, caesarean — from $3,900 for a contract with a private hospital: the lower end covers a natural birth, the upper end a caesarean section. This covers the clinic and doctor only, not status, accommodation or documents. Prices change several times a year — please check for the latest figures.
Which clinic in Cancún is best for childbirth?
Galenia is the most popular choice — it has its own neonatal intensive care unit. Hospiten Cancún is favoured for its international service and experience with foreign patients; Amerimed is a more compact option. The right fit depends on your gestational age, budget and pregnancy history.
Do Cancún clinics have English-speaking staff?
No. Private hospitals have English-speaking staff, but no Russian-speaking personnel. That is why we provide a doula-interpreter at the birth: she translates every word the doctor says and advocates for your birth plan.
What does the birth contract include?
Usually covers the birth, a set number of days in the ward, the physician’s fee, and anesthesia. Complications, extra days, and neonatal intensive care are almost always billed separately — that is the most important thing to clarify before signing.
