Birth in Canada: citizenship for the child and a transparent bill

The child becomes a citizen at the moment of birth, regardless of the parents’ status. This destination is managed by our partner in Toronto with everything included: visa, hospital, doctor, medical interpreter, and the child’s documents. The window is narrow — the visa process begins 2–6 months out, with arrival at weeks 32–36.

Key facts about this destination

Canada is one of the few developed countries where birthright citizenship is unconditional. A child born here becomes a citizen at the moment of birth, regardless of the parents’ status — a tourist visa, the absence of one in the past, or the parents’ nationality makes no difference whatsoever. There are no legal restrictions on travelling to Canada specifically to give birth.

And straight to the point that half the market stays silent about. Citizenship goes to the child — and only the child. It gives parents no status, no right to remain, and no advantage under any other immigration programme. The child can sponsor the parents from the age of eighteen, and that path is slow and competitive. If anyone is selling you a birth in Canada as a route to your own passport — they are selling you something that does not exist.

We run this destination together with our partner in Toronto. Their model differs from what families are used to in Latin America: there, you pay separately for support and separately for the clinic, whereas here the birth, the doctor and a medical interpreter are all included in the package price. That is why the figure looks larger — but you do not need to add medical costs on top.

Comparison

Canada or USA

Both children receive citizenship by birthright, and that is where the similarity ends. The difference is tax-related, and it is lifelong.

🧾

Taxes

A US citizen files a tax return every year for life — wherever they live, even if they have never set foot in the United States after leaving the hospital. A Canadian citizen files only when earning income in Canada or becoming a Canadian tax resident.

🛂

Passport

A Canadian passport — visa-free entry to more than 180 countries

🏥

Complications

Treatment for birth complications in Canada is covered by the state. In the US, this can run to a significant sum

⚖️

Rules

Canada has no legal restrictions on travelling there to give birth. In the USA, an executive order against birth tourism has been in effect since 6 August 2026, and we do not arrange births there.

Hospitals

Where exactly to give birth

Our partner operates in Toronto. Hospital selection — one day — is included in all three packages; we find a doctor who works with the company directly, and their fee is already included in the price.

🏥

Humber River

Modern hospital in northwest Toronto

🏥

Southlake Regional Health Centre

Regional centre north of the city

🏥

Mount Sinai

One of the country’s leading perinatal centres, in central Toronto

The doctor and hospital are reserved over four months before the birth: the doctor’s schedule fills up in advance. Starting later than three months out incurs a surcharge of $600–900. The partner manages the birth in Toronto only. Hospitals in Vancouver and Montreal certainly exist, but the packages are designed for Toronto, and we won’t promise another city.

2026 prices — no vague ’contact us for details’

How much this is costs

Three packages from the partner. Prices in US dollars, 13% HST is added on top — this is the partner’s policy, and we’re stating it here, not at the end of the conversation. Economy with tax comes to around $19,100.

1️⃣

Economy — 16 900 $

Visa, hospital, doctor, birth in a shared room with a medical interpreter (from admission and for two hours after), documents for the baby and help with paperwork in your home country

2️⃣

Optimal — 19 900 $

Everything in Economy, plus the practical side of life: accommodation through a licensed agent, airport transfer, help renting a car, paediatrician (2 visits), interpreter at every gynaecologist appointment, driver to the maternity ward at any hour, second citizenship for your child

3️⃣

Comfort — 23 900 $

Everything in Optimal, plus a private room from admission to discharge, anaesthesia included, newborn examination and care, 20 hours of a personal interpreter-assistant, bank account opening, concierge service, massage course and a photo session

If you have insurance, part of the cost may be reimbursed

This is not a discount — the partner does not reduce the package price. But if you have personal insurance covering childbirth in Canada, 55% of costs are reimbursed on it. The money comes back from the insurer, not from us, so the first thing to do is check with your provider whether your policy covers childbirth abroad and on what terms. The difference on a sum this size is significant, and it is worth asking before you choose a plan.

What is not included in the packages — and this is a clear boundary, not fine print

  • C-section — $5,000–$7,500. Not included in any plan
  • Neonatology, if needed — $3,000–$4,000. An extra day in the hospital — the same amount
  • Apartment rental. The search itself is included in Optimal and Comfort packages; the cost of accommodation is not: one-bedroom from $2,000 per month
  • Epidural anesthesia $1,500 and surgical assistant $1,500 — if they are not included in your plan
  • Comprehensive newborn medical testing by hospital specialists — $1,900
  • Paediatrician at the hospital 500 $, paediatrician at a children’s clinic 100 $ per visit, monitoring visit at the hospital 400–500 $, clinic visit 60–80 $
  • A medical interpreter at $40/hr and a nanny at $20/hr are in addition to what is already included in the package. Waiting time at the doctor’s appointment counts as the interpreter’s working time
  • Car rental $600–800/month, mobile plan $50/month
  • Flight and insurance
  • Your status. The birth of a child does not change it and does not give the right to stay

13% HST is added on top of all partner prices. Payment by bank transfer, card or cash.

Reviews

What people say clients

💬

Visa in five days

«The first call was on October 7th, we applied for the visa on the 12th, and by the 17th it was already in our hands. The lawyers helped us build a strategy, and we gathered all the documents promptly on our end. In the end, we got the visa in 5 days.»

A family from Russia, October

💬

Approval after biometrics

«We applied, waited for biometrics — the visa was approved. Now waiting in Canada.»

A client from Russia, July

Five days is an exceptional case, not a promise. The decision on the visa rests with the authority, and processing does not begin until biometric data have been submitted. Based on our partner’s experience, timelines range from 10 days to three weeks; the authority’s official guidance tends to be understated. That is why we say: start the visa process two to six months out, not ’whenever it works out’. Reviews are published with client consent and are anonymised.

Schedule

Timing matters everything

Before delivery

  • 2–6 months before — agreement with the support company
  • 2–6 months before arrival — visa application. In 2023 21% of families were unable to travel for the birth, because they did not manage to obtain it in time. This is the only figure on this page worth remembering
  • 4 months before — hospital selection and doctor reservation. Later than three months out — a surcharge of $600–900
  • 1.5 months before — proof of accommodation. The closer the date, the higher the rent
  • Weeks 32–36 — arrival. After 37 weeks, doctors strongly advise against flying

After the birth

  • 1 week — paediatric check-up
  • 3 weeks — the Canadian birth certificate is ready
  • +1 week — Canadian passport for the child (2 business days with tickets in hand)
  • +1 week — document legalisation: apostille 1 week, consular legalisation 2–3 weeks
  • 2–3 weeks — a second passport for parents from Russia and Ukraine
Preparation

What to bring to the doctor

A Canadian doctor will take you on at a late stage but will need to see your complete pregnancy history. Gather these records at home in advance — getting repeat tests done on arrival takes longer and costs more.

Ultrasound

  • 8–10 weeks of pregnancy
  • FTS — first trimester screening, 12–14 weeks
  • Anatomy ultrasound, 18–22 weeks

Blood test, weeks 12–16

Hemoglobin (HB) · Platelets (PLT) · Blood type · Rubella · Hepatitis B (HBsAg) · VDRL · HIV · TSH · sexually transmitted infections (GC + Chlamydia)

Also

  • Urinalysis
  • Pap smear — cervical cytology
  • NIPT (Panorama)
  • General medical record or doctor’s report
  • List of medications taken: vitamins, hormonal
  • Type of pregnancy: IVF or natural

Submit after arriving

  • Ultrasound at 37 weeks and blood test

This is the partner’s list for their doctors. It does not replace your doctor’s prescriptions and does not constitute medical advice.

Daily life

Accommodation and documents

🏠

Why housing is the hardest part

In Canada, leases typically run for a minimum of one year, and a newcomer has nothing to show: no Canadian credit history and no reference letters from previous landlords. Finding an apartment for a few months is difficult, and the search starts months before departure.

📋

What the landlord will ask for

A guarantor who is a Canadian resident, entry documents, proof of financial means, and a personal interview. The partner provides 5–6 options and negotiates the contract term.

👶

Documents for a child

A Canadian birth certificate and passport. Separately — a second citizenship from Russia or Ukraine, and legalisation of documents for the country where you live

⚖️

What the documents don’t provide

No parental status. A birth in Canada does not change your immigration situation at all — your child will be able to sponsor you from the age of eighteen.

Questions

Frequently asked questions — Canada

What does a child born in Canada receive?

Canadian citizenship is granted at birth by birthright, unconditionally and regardless of the parents’ status. Next come the Canadian birth certificate (around 3 weeks) and passport (one more week). A Canadian passport provides visa-free entry to more than 180 countries.

Does having a child give the parents residency status?

No. This is the most expensive misconception in the birth-abroad space, and we say it before you pay, not after: Canadian citizenship goes to the child. It gives the parents no status, no right to stay, and no advantage under any other program. The child can file for the parents only from the age of eighteen, and that route is competitive.

How much does it cost to give birth in Canada?

Three all-inclusive packages from our partner in Toronto: Economy $16,900, Optimal $19,900, Comfort $23,900. The price already includes the visa, hospital, doctor, medical interpreter at the birth, and the child’s documents. A 13% HST tax is added on top. A C-section is not included in any package — $5,000–$7,500 extra.

When to arrive and when to start?

Doctors recommend arriving between 32 and 36 weeks; flying after 37 weeks is not advised. Start the visa process 2–6 months in advance: according to our partner’s data, in 2023 21% of families were unable to come for the birth simply because they ran out of time to get a visa. The hospital and doctor should be reserved 4 months ahead — booking later will incur a surcharge of $600–900.

Canada or the US?

The most important difference is tax-related — and it lasts a lifetime. A US citizen must file a tax return every year for life, regardless of where they live or whether they have ever set foot in the United States. A Canadian citizen only files when earning income in Canada or becoming a Canadian tax resident. On top of that, treatment for birth complications in Canada is covered by the state.

Which hospital will the birth take place at?

Our partner operates in Toronto: Humber River, Southlake Regional Health Centre and Mount Sinai. Hospital selection — one day — is included in all three packages; we find a doctor who works with the company directly, and their fee is already included in the price.
